Twitter & Other MESHy Stuff

Soooo… I am in twitter rehab, a self imposed one of course.

Why?

Simply because twitter is threatening to take over my life!

I don’t have the time to write, to read stuff (I borrowed 3 books from the library and read NONE. I KNOW, IT’S OUTRAGEOUS =p) and my attention span has been reduced to that of a goldfish!

I know, I know, moderation is key, but if you know me, you know that in ria’s world, moderation doesn’t exist. Why do I do THAT?

Also, I attended MESH this year and it was AWESOME!

For those of you who don’t know what MESH is and would like to find out, here is the link! GET CLICKING! πŸ˜€

The one thing that I really loved about MESH, apart from the talks (haha lies) πŸ˜‰ , was the chance to meet so many interesting people from all walks of life. I actually met someone whom I’ve been following on twitter for quite some time! SMALL WORLD O_O

A shout out to all my lovely people, some of whom I met at MESH, while others are just wonderful people I’ve come to know recently!

Elizabeth from Bargain Babe Montreal – She scours for deals on the Internet and posts the best ones on her blog! She is fun and quirky and I adore her! (@bargainbabemtl)

Darlene from Business Wire – She is hilarious! Enough Said! Her twitter handle isΒ @DWebb2pt0

Trisha – She is a writer and she is delightful! Also, she is the one whom I’ve been following on twitter for quite some time! (@evelyntrisha)

Alexandra Pope – My friend from the weather network πŸ˜€ YAY! Β (@XelaTWN)

Lucia Vena – Digital Strategist @feastinc and an awesome lady! ❀

Shanti Hadioetomo – My Asian Love! Β (@shantomo)

Jeff DeChambeau – Philosopher, techlover and a funny person! Β (@jeffdechambeau)

AmitΒ – I linked this to his blog but he is secretive and stuff. Makes him all the more intriguing right? πŸ˜‰ He is awesome! (@ajethani)

There is someone else whom I want to mention in this list but all I’ve got for him is HOT GUY haha so I shall refrain from doing that at the moment. Also, I forgot his name >.<

Is there something you guys are trying to quit? How is that working out for you? Also, if I don’t follow you on twitter, leave your twitter handles in the comments section below.

P.S: t I am still waiting for you to get twitter!

  1. I just followed you on Twitter. I’m not as active on Twitter. I check in every day, but I don’t spend too much time there. Otherwise, as you point out, I’d never get anything done!

  2. You write the most entertaining posts! You could make a living just going places and then running back here and telling us what’s the hap. Thanks for sharing! Oh and good luck with breaking the Twitter habit.

    • hahah Darlene, that’s quite the compliment! Thank you and honestly, that is my dream job!

I hope someday that dream will come true!

  3. I’m trying to quit my addiction to RSS feeds! I subscribe to over 50 websites in my Google Reader and several websites update almost a hundred times a day! Scheduling time in my day to get it over with works well for me!

P.S: Follow me again on twitter: @ajethani

    • hahah oh my! That explains the links that you’ve been sharing on twitter eh? πŸ˜‰

I enjoy reading them though! You’re listed in my ‘interesting funky stuff’ list but you probably can’t see it cause all my lists are private!

I put your twitter handle in the post! x

      • It is a big list, includes both people and organizations:

        Al Jazeera English @AJEnglish
        BBC @BBCWorld and @BBCBreaking
        Slate @Slate
        TED Talks @TEDNews
        Daily Caller @DailyCaller
        National Post @NationalPost
        i Watch News @iWatch
        Media Matters @MediaMatters
        Breaking News @BreakingNews
        Daily Caller @DailyCaller

        Meghan McCain @McCainBlogette
        Rachel Maddow @MaddowBlog
        Robert Reich @RBReich
        Ezra Klein @ezraklein

        Progressive Caucus @USProgressives
        Open Government @OpenGov

There are a number of others, but those are likely my favorites. I follow a few of my favorite congress people like Al Franken and Bernie Sanders. I follow the White House, Senate and the House. But the above list are the ones I really look for, the individuals because the are interesting the actual ‘news’ outlets because while they are not all ‘balanced’ they provide a starting position.

Al Jazeera and BBC are likely my favorites as they are far less polarized than any of our US sources.

I also follow a number of writers / columnists who I enjoy more than rely upon for actual sources of information.

  4. I follow you on Twitter from my blog account. I am doing everything in my power to divorce myself from my personal twitter account. I have far too many people on it to keep up. When your stream looks like a ticker in fast forward, it is frankly too much.

Glad you met some cool ppl at MESH.

    Red.

  5. Great post!!! MESH sounds incredible.

Okay, I’m old, but I have to say that between FB and blogging and regular writing, I’m almost glad that I’m a total Twitter idiot, because I squander enough time as it is.

In answer to your question– yes, I’m trying to quit something. Smoking. Day four.

    • Good luck M!

Stay strong and don’t give up!

I am glad you liked it and yes MESH was a lot of fun! I didn’t get to take too many pictures though >.<

    • haha really? whoa! how’d you do that?

      I am failing >.<

Thanks for the follow! I am gonna head over to your blog now! πŸ˜€

  6. I guess I’m lucky because I never figured out twitter. I have an account, I just don’t go there and jump in because I’m too intimidated by the running of the tigers and bulls and whatnots. Good luck if you’re trying to quit.

  7. How can you be addicted to Twitter? What is there to be addicted to? If I had more followers I’d probably tweet more but I just use it to stalk people lol.

I’m currently trying to quit being so awesome, but I’m failing miserably.

    • Correction: You don’t stalk, you merely gather information πŸ˜‰ haha

I don’t know, there is just so much to say!

  8. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays..
